MindSalt gives you a few ways to look at time, expenses, projects, budgets, billing, and other information. Choose the report style that fits what you are trying to answer.

Choose a report style #

Detailed reports #

Use a Detailed report when you want to see the individual rows behind the totals.

Detailed reports are a good choice when you want to:

  • review time or expense entries;
  • choose the exact columns to include;
  • group rows by employee, client, project, task, or other fields;
  • sort the results;
  • include comments or expense receipts;
  • export detailed data to CSV.

See Detailed reports.

Summary reports #

Use a Summary report when you want a quick view of totals and trends instead of every individual entry.

A Summary report can include:

  • key totals at the top of the report;
  • a trend chart;
  • a distribution chart;
  • a breakdown table grouped the way you need it.

Summary reports work well for questions such as:

  • How many hours did we record this month?
  • Which projects used the most time?
  • How is billing or cost changing over time?
  • How is the work split between clients, projects, or employees?

See Summary reports.

Explore reports #

Explore reports are ready-made reports built around a specific question.

Instead of building a report from scratch, choose the Explore report that matches what you need. Examples can include employee daily hours, missing or incomplete time, expenses without receipts, and Budget Performance.

Explore reports are useful when you know the question you want to answer and want MindSalt to set up most of the report for you.

See Explore reports.

Filters #

Filters narrow the report to the information you want.

Depending on the report, you may be able to filter by employee, client, project, task, date, expense type, status, or other fields.

You do not need to fill in every filter. Start with the few filters that matter to the question you are trying to answer.

Apply and refresh a report #

After changing a filter, column, group, or display option, select Apply to rebuild the report with those changes.

Once the report is up to date, the button changes to Refresh. Use Refresh when you want to pull the latest data without changing the report setup.

Save a report #

If you use the same report often, save it so you do not have to rebuild it each time.

Saved reports can keep things such as:

  • report type;
  • filters;
  • columns;
  • groups;
  • display choices;
  • fixed or relative date settings.

If sharing is available to you, a saved report can also be shared with other MindSalt users.

Available choices depend on the report.

Common choices include:

  • printing from the browser;
  • PDF;
  • CSV.

Use CSV when you want to work with the report data in a spreadsheet or another system.

Tip: Detailed and Explore reports can contain a lot of rows. If an on-screen or PDF report is too large, narrow the filters or use CSV when you need the full set of rows.
