Tasks describe the activities or work performed for a project.
Tasks are fundamental components required for time tracking. They are activities, or work efforts, against which employees track their time to projects. Tasks must first be created and assigned to projects before employees can begin tracking time to projects.
Tasks can be generic and assigned to multiple projects (meeting, research, proposal, etc.) or can be specific and then applied to only one project.
Tip: If you need to add, remove, or modify a task from multiple projects try using the task bulk assign feature.
Options and field descriptions #
Name – A name for the task.
Accounting ID – This optional field simplifies the exporting of data to an accounting package. When supplied, the Accounting ID acts as a code or cross-reference to related data located within an external accounting package.
Comments – Provide any additional comments regarding the task.
Automatically add this task to Projects when they are created? – Indicates whether or not the task should automatically be added to new projects. This option will not effect projects currently in the system (i.e. The selected task will not be added to projects that already exist, only new projects as they are created).
Is this Task billable by default? – Indicates whether or not the task should be set to 'Billable' when automatically added to new projects. This option will not effect projects where the selected task is already assigned (i.e. Changing the default billable status for a task will not alter the billable status for projects that the task is already assigned to). Default Billing Rate – This optional field allows you to specify a default billing rate for the task. When the task is added to new projects this rate will automatically be used, however, the rate can be changed on a project-by-project basis once assigned to a project. See How rates are applied for more information on how rates are applied in the system.

- Select New to create a new task or select an existing task from the list.
- Provide a unique name for the task.
- Provide any additional data in the remaining optional fields.

Active and archived records #
MindSalt uses Active and Archived. Archived records stay in your account but do not appear in active lists. To archive a record, open its three-dot menu and select Archive. When a record can be copied, Copy is in the same menu.
